Pastor

Rev. Amy Slater (she/her) serves as pastor at South Gate UMC.

I grew up in St. Charles, Missouri, near St. Louis, where I developed a love for rivers, Cardinal baseball, and thin-crust pizza. I earned my Master of Divinity at Saint Paul School of Theology in 2008. While there I met and married Jeff Slater, originally from Wichita, Kansas. We share a mutual love of Jesus, theology, and Doctor Who, while continuously arguing over whether it’s called “pop” or “soda”. (It’s soda.) We were both ordained in the former Kansas West Annual Conference in 2011. We have two awesome boys, Ricky and Sammy, and a tiny dog, Lily, who has us all well-trained.

I have served churches in St. Joseph, MO, Stafford, KS, and Alden, KS. I am excited to be a part of the fun and active life of South Gate UMC.

South Gate and I have a mutual passion for sharing God’s love and invitation. Together we believe that God’s welcome is truly for all and we work together to ensure that everyone feels welcome here. We also love to reach out to the community through neighborhood events, charitable support, and our participation as a founding member of Justice in Action.
